Teak cleaning and brightening in one minute
What is teak cleaning and brightening? Cleaning lifts dirt, grime and old residue out of the grain. Brightening evens out the grey, weathered tone so the wood looks warmer and more uniform. Protection with oil or a sealer is optional and slows future greying.

What’s included in teak cleaning & brightening.
Teak is soft and easy to damage. We keep it controlled, even, and marina-friendly: scope confirmed after inspection.
Teak Cleaning (Core)
- Deep clean to remove dirt, grime and surface buildup
- Safe agitation to lift contamination from the grain
- Rinse and neutralize properly (process depends on condition)
Brightening (Core)
- Even brightening to reduce greying and restore a cleaner tone
- Spot treatment for stains where possible (case-by-case)
- Final rinse and controlled dry-down
Optional (Only With Approval)
- Teak protection/oil/sealer options (based on your preference and use)
- Light sanding (only if needed; case-by-case)
- Maintenance plan recommendations for keeping teak consistent
Honest note: Teak is a soft wood: harsh chemicals and aggressive brushing can damage the grain and shorten its life. Results depend on how weathered the teak is and what was used on it before. If sanding/refinishing is the only way to fix heavy damage, we’ll tell you straight.
Three ways to finish teak, honestly compared.
There is no single right answer. It depends on the look you want and how much upkeep you are happy with. Here is how we explain it to owners:
Natural (no finish)
Clean teak left to weather to a soft silver-grey. Least upkeep and good grip on decks, but it greys and needs regular gentle cleaning.
Teak oil
A warm, golden look. It wears off quickly in sun and water and needs re-oiling often; old oil can turn dark and blotchy if it is not cleaned off.
Teak sealer
Keeps a more even colour for longer than oil with less frequent upkeep. It still needs cleaning and re-coating over time.
Why harsh cleaners hurt teak
Aggressive cleaners and stiff brushing wash out the soft wood between the grain, leaving ridges and a rough surface. We use a gentle, controlled process.
Seams & caulking
Lifting or cracked seam compound lets water under the teak. We flag it; see boat caulking and resealing.
Lake Ontario sun & winter
Strong summer UV greys teak quickly; clean and dry teak before it goes under shrink wrap for the winter.
Clean first, brighten evenly.
Clean first, brighten evenly, and protect only when it makes sense for your usage.
Assess condition and previous treatments
Old oil, sealer or cleaners change what is safe to use.
Clean first
Remove grime and old residue.
Brighten evenly
Avoid blotchy patches.
Rinse/neutralize and dry properly
So no cleaner stays in the grain.
Protect if requested
To slow future fading.
Gentle cleaning, right in the grain.
