Quick answer

Gelcoat repair & yacht refinishing in one minute

What is gelcoat repair? Gelcoat is the hard, glossy outer layer of a fiberglass boat. When it chips, cracks or wears through, the fiberglass underneath can take on water. Gelcoat repair fills and rebuilds the damaged spot, matches the colour and blends it in. Yacht refinishing goes further and restores a whole section so the finish is even again.

What it is
Gelcoat repair and yacht refinishing at your marina or yard: chips, cracks, gouges and dock rash filled, colour-matched and blended, and worn areas refinished.
What we fix
Chips, surface and spider cracks, gouges, dock rash, worn-through spots, transom and corner damage, rudder and keel repairs, cockpit non-skid, stripes and scratches.
Price
Quoted from photos. Each repair depends on size, depth, colour and access. Larger or multi-area work is confirmed after an inspection.
How long
Small spot repairs often take one visit. Larger repairs need cure time between stages, and the repair must fully cure before we polish over it.
Where
In the water at your slip for topside repairs, or on the hard at your marina or yard for hull and bottom repairs.

Which do you need

Gelcoat repair vs yacht refinishing.

Most boats need one of three things. We look at your photos and tell you which one, and what result to expect.

Level 1

Spot repair

One chip, gouge or crack. Filled, levelled, colour-matched and blended into the panel around it.

Level 2

Area blend

Several repairs close together, or a repair on a highly visible spot. We blend a wider area so the repair disappears into the finish.

Level 3

Yacht refinishing

When the whole section looks tired: wet sanding, compounding and polishing to restore the gelcoat, plus repairs, non-skid rebuilds or stripe replacement where needed.

What we repair

What we repair on Toronto boats.

Chips & gouges

Dock rash, anchor strikes and impact chips on the hull sides, bow and transom.

Cracks

Surface and spider cracks in gelcoat. If a crack comes from movement in the structure, we tell you before any cosmetic work.

Worn-through spots

Corners, rub areas and edges where the gelcoat is worn down to fiberglass. Sealed so water can’t get in.

Rudder & keel

Fiberglass and gelcoat repairs on rudders and around the keel while the boat is on the hard.

Cockpit non-skid

Worn or patched non-skid sanded and refinished so it grips and looks even again.

Stripes & graphics areas

Old stripes removed or replaced and the area under them refinished. See decal removal.

Scratches

Hull scratches wet-sanded and machine-polished out when they are in the gelcoat, not through it.

Windows & fittings

Leaks around windows and hardware fixed with re-bedding and new sealant. See caulking & resealing.

What we don’t do: structural repairs, soft spots, delamination and osmosis. Those need a structural repair shop, and we tell you straight if we see them.

What’s included

What’s included in gelcoat repair & refinishing.

We tailor the work to the damage type, access, and finish (gelcoat vs painted surfaces). Typical scope includes:

Localized Repairs (Core)

  • Inspect chips, cracks, gouges, and worn-through spots
  • Prep the area (clean, shape, stabilize edges)
  • Fill and rebuild the surface (repair compound/gelcoat as appropriate)
  • Sand and level for a smooth transition

Blending & Finish (Core)

  • Color-matched gelcoat/finish work as close as possible
  • Polish/refine the surrounding area to help the blend
  • Clean final edges and confirm surface is sealed and protected

Optional (Only With Approval)

  • Larger-area blending (when spot repair isn’t enough)
  • Minor fairing for shape correction (case-by-case)
  • Protective finish after repair (wax/sealant)
  • Small adjacent cosmetic touch-ups during the same visit (scope-based)

Honest note: Color matching is influenced by sun fade, age, and previous work. We aim for the best possible blend, but some repairs may remain slightly visible up close, especially on older or heavily faded gelcoat. We’ll set expectations before starting.

Repair Before It Spreads (Our Approach)

Repair before it spreads.

If we see deeper structural issues (soft spots, delamination), we’ll tell you straight. That’s a different category of repair.

After the repair cures, we can polish and protect the whole panel: see gelcoat polishing and ceramic or wax.

01

Define the True Damage Edge

We identify what’s really compromised, not just what you see on top.

02

Prep & Stabilize

Proper prep prevents future cracking and helps the repair hold long-term.

03

Rebuild, Level & Blend

We rebuild the surface, sand/level correctly, then blend and refine the finish.

04

Seal & Protect

We seal exposed fiberglass to prevent water intrusion and future damage.

FAQs

Gelcoat repair and refinishing: your questions.

Can you make it look like new?
Sometimes yes, but not always. We can often blend repairs very well, but sun fade and older gelcoat can limit a perfect invisible match. We’ll be honest upfront.
Will this stop water from getting into fiberglass?
Yes. Sealing exposed fiberglass is one of the main reasons to repair early.
Do you repair cracks?
We can repair many surface-level cracks, but if cracks are structural or caused by movement, we’ll flag it and recommend the correct repair path.
How long does it take?
Depends on size/number of damaged spots and cure time. Send photos + location and we’ll quote accurately.
How much does gelcoat repair cost in Toronto?
Every repair is quoted from photos, because size, depth, colour and access change the work a lot. Small spot repairs are the simplest; multi-area repairs and refinishing are confirmed after an inspection.
What is yacht refinishing?
Restoring the look of a yacht’s gelcoat: repairing damage, then wet sanding, compounding and polishing so the finish is even and glossy again, with protection on top.
Can you match the colour on an older boat?
We match as close as possible. Sun fade, age and previous repairs affect the match, so we blend the surrounding area and tell you before we start what result to expect.
Do you repair on the water or on the hard?
Topside repairs can often be done at the slip. Hull, keel, rudder and bottom repairs are done on the hard.
Do you do structural repairs or osmosis?
No. Soft spots, delamination and osmosis need a structural repair shop. If we see them, we stop and tell you straight.
Can you polish right after the repair?
Only after the repair has fully cured. Polishing too early ruins the repair, so we plan the cure time into the job.
